Plants are living beings
and do require water and air for there survival, as do human
beings require. There requirement of water varies with
there types. Diffrent types of plants require diffrent
quantities of water and at diffrent times till they grow
up completely , water is normaly supplied to these plants by
nature through direct rain or the water supplied through
irrigation facilities. The water absorbed by the land during
rains also supplements the water requirements of the crops
during dry season. In bid to control the nature human
beings discovered various methods by which the water can be
stored during the period of excess rainfall and to use
that extra water during period of 'no rainfall' or 'less
rainfall' .
The art or the science by which it is accomplished is
generally, termed as irrigation .Irrigation may therefore be
defined as the science of providing water to the land
through channels etc. In accordance with the cropsrequirements throughout the 'crop period' for
full-fledged nourishment of the crops.
