The Profile -  Dudu Basantgarh

 
 

The entire area of Dudu Basantgarh is hilly and land locked situated at altitude of about 5500 ft. visualizing its topography, hilly terrains and in accessibility, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir had declared the entire area of Dudu Basantgarh as Bad Pocket Area. In 1978, An Area Development Officer (ADO) was appointed independently headquartered at Dudu with the mission to look after and speed up its developmental activities. However, the post of ADO was redesignated as Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in September 1998 and its Headquarters were shifted from Dudu to Basantgarh on 22nd October 2000.

Since then, Sub Divisional Magistrate Dudu Basantgarh sits at Basantgarh and in total, 14 officers have functioned as ADO / SDM in Dudu Basantgarh since the inception of these posts in this area of District Udhampur, The journey began with Sh. Dwarka Nath Sharma who joined as ADO in 1978, followed by S/Shri Ghulam Nabi Kakroo, K.L Bhat, Khalid Hussain, Abdul Majeed Bhat, Arjun Singh, Balwant Singh, Farooq Khan, Dhanentar Singh Manhas, G.R Wani, Ramesh Chander, Subhash Chander, Avtar Singh and Shri Amit Sharma who has been holding the post of Sub Divisional Magistrate Dudu Basantgarh since 2009 till date.

But it is worthwhile to mention here that after the posting of Shri Amit Sharma as Sub Divisional Magistrate, Dudu Basantgarh, the whole of Dudu Basantgarh Sub Division  has touched new heights in terms of development, prosperity and growth in various key sectors. A brief profile of the present SDM Amit Sharma's working is given below:

  • Acquired powers of Collector of Sub Division including Tehsil Ramnagar for the first time in the history of Dudu Basantgarh which has resulted in quick disposal of Land Acquisition Cases, especially PMGSY Cases.

  • Acquired Powers of Issuance of Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) immediately after joining here and since then, holding regular camps of issuing PRCs (State Subject Certificates) on a regular basis and issuing same in huge numbers in those camps thereby providing Administration at the doorsteps of a common man in Dudu Basantgarh.

  • Implementation of innovative concept of E-Governance through using E-Mailing as a primary medium of Communication with offices all across the state and outside and taking a major step towards creating 1st E-Sub Division in this remotest and inaccessible terrain of Jammu & Kashmir

  • Holding multiple Public Darbars alongwith several officers/officials of various departments almost every fortnight in every nook and corner of Dudu Basantgarh  and given spot solutions to problems of the public in these Darbars and issuance of directions for immediate redressal for their grievances in a time bound manner.

  • Holding Awareness Camp of various functional departments such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Employment, CAPD, Sericulture, Fisheries, Cooperative, Health, Education, Rural Development, ICDS, Tourism, Social Welfare thereby inparting knowledge about various incentive driven schemes for unemployed youth of Sub Division and motivating them to take up new professional avenues to create a generational leap from thir predecessors and creating a new Work Culture and Vibrancy in entire Dudu Basantgarh.

  • Organized several Eco-Friendliness, Cultural, Sports and Youth-oriented Activities in entire Dudu Basantgarh in the form of Environment Friendly Rallies, Sports Festivals, T-20 Cricket Tournaments, Table Tennis Championships, Half Marathons, Paigaam-e-Aman Mushaira, Deforestation Campaigns, Biodiversity Conservation Programmes, Volleyball Tournaments, Cultural Evenings, Ramlila, Iftar Parties, etc. just to reflect real spirits of culture, universal brotherhood, peace and tranquility prevailing in Dudu Basantgarh.

  • Revived the Dudu leg of Kailash Kund Yatra after a gap of more than fifteen years in 2010 during summer months which has now become a regular feature of Pilgrimage Tourism spirits prevailing in Dudu Basantgarh and the number has been constantly increasing every year for the same and it has become a popular drive in attracting public to Dudu Basantgarh every year.
